Something I've been thinking about doing is making buttons so lately I've been doodling a bunch of ideas. Here's one featuring Birdo! (Any real buttons wouldn't be this big, of course.) I missed drawing her it's just so fun. :p If anyone's interested I also have a version with no black border, but I really don't think there's much difference.

Most people think Birdo is guy because thats what Nintendo told everyone. "The original manual for Super Mario Bros. 2 asserts that Birdo is a boy who believes that he is a girl, and would rather be referred to as "Birdetta""
And more recently in Captain Sunshine they decided to center a who subplot around it. "Birdo's reason to come to Mimin Island is to become popular with all the boys, but is arrested by Mappo after walking in the women's restroom, uncertain of Birdo's gender. Birdo claims that Nick is his/her boyfriend after Nick "proves" she/he is "female" and releases him/her from prison. Birdo lives in the "Cute House" on a separated part of the Island. The interior consists of mostly pink colored furniture, ribbons, and eggs. The game continues the recurring controversy around Birdo's gender, where she claims to be female and that Nick is her boyfriend but she has a male voice."

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I don't check on here often.
At dinner I told you that "Dr Dons Buttons" on ebay would be the best place to look, but I can't find any auctions by them anymore.
Also in my re-researching this, I found a new button maker that might be worth looking into, as it features modular parts, so you can get one machine and then buy new moulds to make a entirely different size or even shape of button without having to buy an entirely new machine. That is this machine http://buttonmaker.asc365.com
The draw back I see is that it seems to be different size than almost every other button maker on the market and so parts could only be purchased from that company and would cost more.
So my main recommendation would be for something just like this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-1-4-Stnd-Size-BUTTON-MAKER-MACHINE-PUNCH-500-PARTS-/370678732285?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564e2c95fd
Machine + 500 parts + circle punch
(you want a punch, not a cutter, I learned the hard way that spinning circle cutters suck)
