I hear it every year. All the new kids comin' up, all excited to hop on the court with the big boys, thinkin' they're gonna still be the big fishes in the small ponds they were back in their schools or their small time leagues. They say they're gonna show the FBA somethin' it's never seen before, they're gonna show the whole world what they're made of, and they're gonna shake the league to its core. It's almost adorable how they actually believe it.

I call the first round of games The Humbling, when they finally get a taste of what it's like to play in the FBA and see what it means to have to go paw to paw with the best in the world. And I'm usually the one to pull 'em off their clouds and slam 'em back down to earth.

It's what I love about rookies. They're always thrilled to play me the first time, and terrified to play me the second.
