This is a piece that I just finished and will be at the FC08 art show. As the afternoon turns to evening Little Rommel's group of fighters find themselves the victors of a battle in a deserted village.
Who knows why the battle even happened. Maybe they accidentally ran into government forces while passing through the area? Maybe it has the only freshwater well in the area and an ambush was set up for her and her men by the Army? Perhaps Little Rommel found out the Army was caching arms and equipment in the village and she decided on a shopping trip? Maybe it is one of her base of operations?
All I know is that after the shooting has stopped. The wounded have been treated. The dead have been buried. On both sides. She's wandered away from her men and is now dwelling on questions that leaders like her have to considered. Should we stay here for the night and rest or move out immediately? Did the enemy get a transmission off before being neutralized? Can the wounded be moved yet or will they even make it to the morning? How much ammo do her men have? Will they have enough water to reach their next objective? Should they change their objectives in light of this battle? With all this on her mind, she is suddenly visited by this small brightly colored bird, and she just stares at it. In the midst of this desolate land is a bright splash of living color. It stares at her for a moment then in a flurry of wings and notes it flys off into the setting sun, and once again our Little Rommel is alone. Better go check on her men.

Yes. One thing I'm trying to do with any piece concerning this character is that I want nothing to look new. Everything has that sun-baked, rained on, dragged throught the sand quality to it. I've been studying photos from Africa and Afghanistan and I'm amazed at how quickly things get that "lived in" look to them. No parade gear here.
Yeah her group uses a RPK. They had a RPD but switched to the RPK when the first SAW was lost in combat. Besides its easy to get parts and magazines for it. If they are going to be conducting a raid and expect to be the ones who initiate the attack then they'll bring the 75rd drums with them. If they are just patrolling an area and mobility is key then they'll just have the 40rd sticks with them. They'd love a PKM but it is a bit much for 3ft tall folks to haul around. At least Little Rommel has instilled some fire discipline in her followers. Shooting from the hip, and gangsta-style sideways shooting will get you a punch in the face for wasting ammo! "The weapons have sights on them for a reason damnit!"
Reminds me on the Punisher qoute: "The shights are on top for a reason."
BTW: who gave her the name "Little Rommel"? He was one of germanys most famouse WW2 generals. But rommel was a Tank genral, seems little rommel has no such thing. Also, who is the fighting against and where?
If she needs help, I know some really good AIM (Assosiaction of International Mercarines) Mercs who would love to help her......I´ll pay them, of course. But I tell ya, give me a HK G3A4 and I´ll finish the job. XD

She got the nickname Little Rommel since she won't tell me her real name, and it seemed impolite to just keep calling her the Fennec Insurrection Leader. I decided on Little Rommel since she is always wearing those desert goggles just like he did. Also she is a fennec and they are desert foxes after all. ;)
Well the origins of Little Rommel's conflict with the current regime originally were the result of her and her fellow villagers efforts to bring to justice the individuals that orchestrated the destruction of their village. The region where they lived in was being used heavily by smugglers and traffickers to move both naracotics and arms to the interior of Africa. At one point the smugglers approached the village elders asking to use the village as waypoint and cache site for their activities since it had one of the best wells in the area. They offered all kinds money and gifts to the elders, but the elders saw them for what they were and have nothing to do with them. Fennecs for the most part are people who the except the world for what it is and don't ask much from it. The villagers just wanted to left alone so they could go about their ways. The smugglers had other ideas.
When an attempt to strong arm the villagers resulted in henchmen getting ganged up and pummeled by the fennecs the smugglers turned to their friends in the Army. With some well placed bribes they were able to convince certain government officals to declare that the villagers were uprising against the regime and needed to be put down. of course the people taking the bribes were put into operation and ruthless efficiency they attacked and destroyed the village. Fortunately most of the village happened to be away market in another village and so was spared. Little Rommel and the village elders were not so lucky. After being raped by the government force, and then presumed shot by a soldier, she was in a burning building by the troops. She was able crawl out the back with no one seeing and hid in some bushes.
When the remaining villagers returned, they found their village a smoking ruin. Their elder all brutally murder, and a handful of survivors to tell them what happened. Through her rage, indignation and passionate story Little Rommel planted the seed of insurrection amongst the survivors. Now they fight to gain justice. Hope that was not to long of a reply.
