I knew someone was going to say that eventually. Although in the book the painting only ages I thought I'd take Wilde's suggestion that one's vices mar the individual's face a step further. Dorian has become cruel and savage, truly monstrous, so the painting has reflected that. He has lost not only his looks and youth, but even his humanity (or fox-anity).
