" I had to choose what to eat and what I could afford to eat. With my budget, I was limited to what I can get. Most of what I get is mostly made from starch. I only buy meat when it's on sale.
In front of me are open envelopes from various places - a mix of bills and so-called paychecks. On my calendar are notes and highlighted dates for payments I need to do and owe, for friends, clients and other misc topics.
Paychecks from work are extremely low due to the increase of the amount they are taking out for health insurance. Most to all of it gone for health insurance because I'm not making that much due to cutback on hours and staff. My manager keeps promising everyone that he is getting more payroll. He lied to us, using most of the payroll on managers and having very little sales associates on the schedule. My store is slowly becoming a manager/key holder store with very little to no part time employees. This is not the only store and company who are doing that. The corporate fat-cats desire more money for their own personal greed, leaving those who are struggling to work left to defend for themselves with little to no pay. Its the holiday season now... the worst time of the year to get screwed.
Next are bills from my medical visit. A simple blood test recommended by my doctor to make sure I wasn't dying from anything ended up costing me an amount 4 digits long. They screwed up. They billed me without adding on my insurance deduction. Their response was "Oops. Another bill will be sent with deductions." I'm still not looking forward to the total. With the large amount of money my job is taking away for my health care, I might as well be paying the full amount and more. What's worst is that I know that my health will not be as good as before due to my cheap diet. I can't really afford another hospital visit if something happens.
Rent is also due too and new equipment needs to be purchased to keep things running...
I know Im not the only one who is affected by the economy. Others are worse off then I am. I can only hope things will change for the better.
Its going to be a poor christmas this year. "

That sucks. I don't have it nearly as hard as you do and yet I understand what you're going through. Tis why i hate Obama, if Romney made it to office this could ahve been fixed, in my opinion at least. Wish things weren;t so bad and that bosses would be more generous to their workers like the Worjer's Rights act expects them to.
I'm not looking to start a political argument, but I think you should give your third sentence far more weight than your second. Employers will use any excuse to not look like an asshole when they cut hours to bring in more profit to themselves. And why not use the one everyone's blaming everything on? Things have actually improved on a macro-scale, not that you'd know it from asking people what's wrong with this country.
That feel. I've actually been living off of everything I usually say no to in my cabinet, but I'm approaching the point where my food will have to be cheaper than ramen.
In order to help out, my entire family didn't buy me anything special on my birthday (25 Nov), instead opting to find something they would have gotten and giving me the money they would have spent on it instead, with notes in the cards to eat before my diabetic state gets any worse and to not let myself go without net (I'm a software engineer), heat, or lights.
This can't last forever. In the 1920s, the index was pushed down by the government reducing overall spending on all militant and research programs and greatly expanding national infrastructure. When the second world war came and they needed to maintain the pullout, the government turned all those infrastructure jobs into homeland support jobs - making the tools of war and such. So, now, we have a lack of industry and a war we're financing to our own demise... I'm hoping they take a cue from the past and finally end this gridlock on budget negotiations. I'm hoping they end this recession in some way that's proven, because for all the unemployment index has gone down, I think it's really just for people like me who have given up hope on finding a job for now. (The unemployment index only tracks those known to be either on unemployment or registered for work, after all.)
Merry Christmas, and thanks for the piece to describe the feels. I hope it gets better on your end even as I fight on my own.

Our Christmas will be poor but it'll be filled with Love and time together,
can't wait to be with you again and take care of you, I wish it was time to head down south already...
Just hang on in there my love, things will get better

The economy sucks!
It's apparent we are entering another Great Depression.
I'm too young to be affected by the economy.
However, it's sad that millions of people are affected by having a small amount of money.
I have read many of your Journals and there have been many times where you've have been in a similar situation.
I hope your doing fine and I hope you stay strong.

My uncles used to hunt rabbit and duck (semi-legally ;3) to supliment the meals in my mums family back when they were growing up, post WW2 there was still rationing and with 8 mouths to feed my grandads paycheck didnt stretch. But even my older relatives think times now are tougher than they were back then.
Excepting the fact that I'm Canadian and don't have to worry about the medical stuff this is very much the situation me and my boyfriend were in for the longest time while I was out of work it's gotten a bit better now I can eat at work which cuts down on what we need to buy for the house (one of the very few benefits of working part time as a cafeteria dishwasher) but it still gets hard with the bills what with my student loans and also the massive credit card debt I accumulated over the several years I was unemployed.
I still can't eat ramen noodles anymore after having them for so long it's very difficult choking them down now lol

I have been there. Never been close to actual starvation, but I've definitly had times of living on ramen noodles. If you have a building 19 or ocean state job lot near you, there is usually all kinds of cheap off-brand food there. It may not be what you want to live on, but it is food. Just adding a can of chicken and some dried onions to the ramen makes it a much more complete meal for little money.
I hear you about the medical too. My wife has insurance, but has a high deductable. She gets a bill for blood work before the 'insurance discount' like you hits 4 figures. With discount very low 3 figures. Now the only difference is the discount. She still is paying 100% its Smoke and mirrors with Medical / insurance. They raise the rates so it seems like insurance is doing things but its getting to the point we are paying for most of it out of pocket and its the 'discount' we are gettng.
