old artwork of my own always looks wrong to me. so i've got serious issues with these guys (not the least of which is the absence of package! i was a bit of a shy schoolgirl then)- but i also have nothing newer than this to post for now.

...wow, that was interesting. don't know how long it's been since i posted a message typed in the header slot. ::facepalm:: obviously too many closing shifts.
but yep, i drew this with inspiration from a couple of photographs while sitting in a social psych seminar. the expressions on the real, live cheetahs were that very classic colonialist 'photographed exotic other' look of just inscrutable, straight-on gaze that in some ways showed more about the photographer's ideas about his subjects than about the subjects themselves- but i wanted in drawing these guys to make them show that sort of alienating, rigid, closed look- i've always complained about that style of photography and nature art that it makes live animals look like they've already been taxidermied; i was sort of trying to poke fun at it i think. but this was about 8 years ago, too, so i've got my own complaints now about how i drew them. especially that one paw- ick! but thanks for the watch!
