Yeah they're palms are normally backwards, they're also very well known from Dungeons and Dragons. Not a creature you really ever want to go up against in that damn game. The fact they can make themselves look like ANYONE is a little unnerving as well as the fact they're very powerful sorcerers. That...and you can't kill them. Sure you can "stop" them, but they'll always come back to life.
Yes they are. I was trying to go for a hint of that in the picture, but I honestly don't know how well it translated. :/
It sounds like it should be inspired from Indian lore, and I do vaguely remember hearing something like that in Indian lore. This particular creature is a D&D monster though. Although I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some of the D&D Rakshasa was inspired by Indian lore, since D&D does like to borrow monsters and monster motifs from already existing lore.
