A Small Surprise Guest
Imagine my surprise when this lovely lady crawled out of my Cintiq. I just had to take a picture!
So I've been playing around with this idea for a few months. And yes, this is a photo of my perspective of my Laptop while I still had it. I took some new photos recently, but this one had the best lighting and angle.
The drawing part took a while to get as I initially tried using a 3D doll for the pose, but it was more effort than it should've been. So I winged it the best I could and am rather happy with the perspective and shapes :P
The real challenge was trying to convert the crisp, bright drawing of Goldie into something that matched the quality and pixel artifacts of the original photo. I tried every filter and filter combination imaginable, but I couldn't replicate the effect. I couldn't even find an addon to do it. So I just sampled a bit of the wall, bandaged up the seams, then overlayed it. It's not perfect, but it works the best out of all I tried.
Then I had to go overboard and added shading and reflections to make it more "realistic". The lines on the leggings and nylon top were a bit of an experiment to replicate the effect of light on nylon cloth. Personally, I love how it turned out.
And there are multiple lines (and shadows) because there are two light sources; the ceiling fan and a lamp clamped on a shelf. A good artist must know how many lights are in the scene and where they're placed.
