AOTC - Generation 2b (Spazz, Tobias, Jacob, Malcolm, Xavier)
GENERATION 2b
In this group are pretty much only characters that I created with Razak’s help, that we labeled “The Academy”. It’s a group of dormmates who all turn out to be gay or bi. Typical, right? The initial group also involved an arrogant stallion jock named Tyler, but he wasn’t interesting enough and never made it in my official characters.
Malcolm Jungen (horse)
I really, really like this character. I always liked the design of a pale-furred horse with very pale blonde mane and tail. This character was actually created for another storyline Razak and I did. Back then, his name was Lloyd and he was a bit of a handsome nerd. Here, he’s more of a normal, well-balanced, smart young horse with a bit of a coy side, who can prove to be very passionate. Malcolm is the last character to have two versions. “Normal” Malcolm is the academy student while “Twink” Malcolm is the extremely hot, airheaded blonde pony who is the last member of Twink Stripes’ posse. Both versions of the character are sweet and good-natured, but Normal Malcolm is definitely smarter.
Xavier Popescu (orca)
Xavier is Mark’s little brother, but wasn’t created as such. The two characters existed completely individually for a long time before I decided to make them brothers. Their storylines are still very separate and don’t involve any incest. Xavier dates Normal Malcolm and has the same basic personality: good-natured, patient, smart. In the same line as his big brother, Xavier has a bit more of an ego and likes to show off, and likes a lot of things that are considered lame and awful, like commercial rap and Michael Bay movies. He dips a little bit in the douchebag stereotype.
Jacob Lee Harkell (lion)
I came up with Jacob’s full name recently. Again, I was inspired by figure skating, specifically by famous Canadian coach Lee Barkell. The character is still fairly underdeveloped. He is, simply put, a nice jock. Heavy in sports, but still understands the importance of studying and trying to get good grades, and putting all chances on his side. He has more street smarts than school smarts, which is balanced by the guy he is dating…
Tobias Monk (mouse)
This is where I realized my friend AJ was completely right when he told me I had a tendency to give Jewish names to a lot of my characters. I don’t really know the reason. I just seem to like Jewish names a lot. Tobias is Jacob’s unofficial boyfriend, and helps the big lion in schoolwork. Like Mark and Chance, I made a couple out of diametrically opposed characters. Tobias falls into the nerd archetype: smart, hard on his studies, uneasy about physical effort, slim built and glasses. Like Jacob, his backstory is mostly underdeveloped.
Young Spazz (red lizard)
Spazz is a character that I appreciate more every time I work on him. He’s probably one of the most complex characters I have. He started as a basic high school gay slut and worked his way to quite a full character. He’s also the character who has the most complete arc, justifying being split in “Young” Spazz and “Adult” Spazz. Spazz is basically the poor man’s Saul. He wants to be the sly, sexy seducer, but often comes off as vulgar and needy. This is because his self-confidence is much lower than Saul’s, making the lizard seek sex to compensate. I always thought about him being raised by a single mom and having daddy issues.
Spazz is also a disruption in the different storylines. Being Xavier’s dormmates, he is therefore connected to Stud Stripes’ storyline (Spazz –> Xavier -> Mark -> Stud Stripes), but is also a rival for Twink Stripes. I usually use the “different times, different worlds” excuse for this.
Adult Spazz (brown lizard)
As I mentioned, Spazz’s character development made him deeply change on a period of 9 years. Growing up and losing his twink attributes, he had some identity crisis and joined the army, meeting Qorr there. This radical change in his way of life, as well as Qorr’s guidance, helped Spazz grow his self-esteem back, and become a much more solid and mature person. He also passed from twink to jock type, while remaining a submissive daddy’s boy at heart.
Also, Spazz is a diminutive of his real name, Esperanzo Guzman. He finds his name to be a mouthful and prefers to be called Spazz. I picked that name because it represents his character development, “Hoping to become a good man”.
