I've been bitten by the needlefelting bug...so here's the start of an ermine I've been making: the wire skeleton base. I know it doesn't look like much yet, but it gets better. ;)

Hmmmm~ I can see how awesome this is gonna get. O:
I've also been meaning to try felting (bought a bunch of materials and a little kit with instructions in case I couldn't figure it out myself, too), but never quite could get up the nerve to try anything. It'll be interesting to see the progress of this! :D *cheer on!*

Thanks! :D I got the bug after watching this; she made it look so fun and easy!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs9U5u-0_64
I've seen a few WIP pics of larger sculptures with wire in, so I thought I would try it in this one (I thought wire was needed; didn't realize until I was already halfway through this that I could have done without, lol)...Next time, I'll probably use a simpler frame, but I definitely want to use some kind of frame, because it makes it easier to pose the critter. :)
Hehe, I didn't even know until after I was halfway through making this that I could have done without a skeleton; I thought it was necessary for pose-able critters. And I've broken two needles on the wire so far, so I just have to be very careful and felt gently down to the wire, then sideways on/over the wire, once I get down to it. It's a bit tricky, but doable. :)
You may be reactive to the skin sebum in "wool in the grease" or "greasy wool" known as lanolin, which is present in wool right off the sheep before it's scoured/processed.
I can handle processed medical grade lanolin, but petting a sheep or even handling some felted items makes me itch and hive up! Which is a shame, I LOVE the look of felted critters!
