Turkish round is the swarthy older brother of byzantine. Where byzantine uses a 2-in-2 sort of connection, turkish round uses a 3-in-3 This results in a bigger, rounder bracelet that uses a lot more rings. Did I mention it looks fabulous?
This was another bold experiment with niobium. The black rings are actually niobium that has been heated until it oxidizes black, then polished with a walnut medium. The colored rings are anodized niobium, which is anodized with an electric current to produce a tough oxide layer on the surface which will never dull (unless you expose it to harsh cleaning chemicals). It is totally hypo-allergenic and, again, fabulous.
The weave is dense and heavy, and it rolls around nicely. The key to chainmail, which I see so many newcomers mess up, is getting the aspect ratio just right. The aspect ratio, or AR, is the ratio between the inner diameter of the ring, and the diameter of the ring used. Too big and the weave won't hold itself together and looks sloppy. Too small and the weave will be still, or worse, it won't work at all. This weave shares an AR with it's younger brother byzantine, and the eldest brother, celtic round.
I really can't talk enough about how good this bracelet feels to wear and play with. It's really heavy, but not so much that it's uncomfortable to wear (it might be if it was in stainless steel). It feels really solid, and it gets a ton of compliments.
