This is the color final for the sketch I posted about three months ago on FA. Of course the one thing that was rather interesting about this piece is that I had no bike to use for a prop. The bike was entirely constructed by looking at components in a Custom Chrome catalog and then seeing if I could fabricate a bike in my head. It is not me preferred method for tech drawing, but sometimes it is good to work outside your comfort zone to avoid getting too lazy! I'm also happy with the graphics that I was able to incoporate into Rosemary's top. It was done in color pencil with marker, gouache and micron pens.

Well the biggest thing is to push the contrast between light and dark. Too often people get timid and don't go far enough with it. To get an idea of how shadows, highlights and reflected colors work with chrome surfaces with different shapes I have a collection of various chrome toys, auto parts, and chrome bits of plastic that I can hold togethre at different angles. Then I can hold them close to swatches of color and then with some fudging of the light source I can get an idea of how the objects should look. Does that help?
Believe it or not, that’s actually pretty accurate. Historically, the frame went around the engine, which might or might not fill the resulting space. Take a look at bikes designed more than twenty or thirty years ago. It’s only relatively recently that motorcycles have gotten so “dense”-looking.
Well it is a relatively simple motor by modern standards. No water-cooling or ram-air injection to it and on top of it the frame is a stretched hardtail which has no rear suspension. Finally it is rather "in " with some bike builders to to hide as much of the wiring and cables by running them throught the frame. That was the look I was shooting for.
My exposure to motorcycles is mostly through the occasional chopper show, and they rarely want simplicity. Since you were actively going for simplicity, I must say that you did a good job achieving it. I understand about the wiring and cables, I think you did those quite nicely.
No problem. I ride an '86 Harley Softail Sport, which, unlike this bike, has a very cushioned rear suspension (hense the name Softail). Still, I've seen lots of custom bikes similar to this. I'd say it's pretty damn accurate.
As for that sexy lil' polecat, she can ride with me anytime.

I'm hoping to get a couple bike pieces done in the next year. One will be a HD Night Train with my equine character Carol Harper, see carousel, and the other is of Carol on a very slammed drop frame chopper sort-of Bourgetish in nature. I also have huge motorcycle racing piece I'm currently working on as a commission.
You did that with color pencils!!Great day in the morning!!Geez you got mad skills.Colors pencils is some thing that i never could get hold of.No matter how hard i tryed.I have to admit i am kind of jealous.Rosemary is a just plain knock out and the bike is not bad ether.Shes just cute as a buttion.
