i think i finally have the main backstory idea for this character that i wanted, about time, my mind kept thinking off too many things at once for her.
ANYWAYS!
Serona was the first born to two proud kitsune parents and in time realised she had the power to control fire. (she will have 5 tails while her younger sister Calypso will have 3)

(Serona got her dark red colored fur from her father while Calypso got her frosted blue colored fur from her mother, their parents are no longer that color as they are now have gold-father- and platinum-mother- colored fur as they are over 900years old and in time Serona and Calypsos fur may turn the same colors once they reach that age)
when her younger sister Calypso was born, Seronas parents seemed to favor Calypso more due to her abilities to control ghosts even when at such a young age. (of course as when kitsunes grow older their abilities become much stronger as they become more powerful with age) because of this Serona has always been a tad jealous that her little sister had gotten most of the attention of how her parents seemd to be more proud of Calypsos abilities.. but at the same time was so thrilled to have a sibling as they seemed nearly impossible to separate from each other. so when Serona had gotten old enough she went off on her own to search for anything that could amplify her abilities so that her parents would also be just as proud of her as they were of Calypso, but when Serona had just seemed to pack up and leave the family to go off on her own for awhile it had upset Calypso greatly.. but hoped in time she would soon see her sister again.
in her travels/adventures she became a demon hunter as she figured she would be able to absorb the slain demons powers.. this is when she has come across the blade she now weilds whose name is Crimson Midnight. a demon has been cursed to take form of this blade, never being able to turn back into its orignal form, move or cause chaos.(has a eye in the center so it is able to see everything as it can speaks to Serona with telepathy) so when Serona came along it took advantage knowing about how she wanted to become much stronger so it convinced her that with its power.. she could become much stronger than even her parents could imagine in time.
This demon within the sword can temporarily combine it's own soul with Seronas body to give her a major power boost in which she can almost become unstopable. when this happens it appears if half of her body is cracking away to reaval a demon side.. but even while possessed she is very capable to control her actions as she is in command.
only with Seronas permisson may the demon take full control of her body.. so if she was to allow this her soul would transfer into the sword as it would then change form to become a powerful flame sword.. as when the demons soul takes control over Seronas body, her body would take on the look of a demonish form. which she will very rarely do this kind of act unless she is given a good reason. when the demon has control of her body it will take the oppertunity to cause as much havoc and chaos it can do before Serona manages to gather up the strength to transfer souls back into their proper places.
usually after the soul transfer the demons spirit becomes weak after possessing Seronas body so it needs to rest before being able to possess her again.. even if it felt tempted to once again control her immediately , Seronas body quickly builds up a resistance against its possession until she yet again is ready to give it permission to possess her again.
also when she slays another demon with Crimson Midnight the sword will quickly absorb the fallen demons power which makes it become a more deadly weapon, leaving behind nothing but the skeleton of the slain beast.
