Most old compasses and clocks are radioactive. They have small amounts of radioactive paint on the needles to make them glow in the dark without a power source. It's not done anymore because the radioactive paint kills the workers who apply it, but it's harmless to you. Just don't take it to the airport. Or remove the glass.
