"Revenge ! Revenge? You? The King Under the Mountain is dead and where are his kin that dare seek revenge ? Girion Lord of Dale is dead and I have eaten his people like a wolf among sheep, and where are his son's son's that dare approach me ? I kill where I wish and none dare resist. I laid low the warriors of old and their like is not in the world today. Then I was but young and tender. Now I am old and strong, strong, STRONG ! Thief in the Shadows. My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings are a hurricane, and my breath . . . DEATH!"

This is a christmas gift for
DracheMetzger. The only reason I'm safe posting it a week early is because with over 2000 messages in her inbox right now? She won't see it until I either physically show it to her, or tie her to a chair and make her clean up her messages.
Also, we discussed it and she said it was alright, she had no plans to go looking for it, as long as it wasn't on tumblr till after she saw it :XD:
Possibly the most extensive watercolor I've ever done, and for a while, I was terrified that I'd ruined it...but overall, I think it turned out pretty okay...
And no, he's not coughing up blood, it was supposed to be molten gold (very much inspired by the 1977 animated rendition) but...apparently I fail at hot soggy metal ^^;
Merry Christmas, Jen!

My gawd this is gorgeous! :o I LOVE the detail on Smaug's scales and the ambient lighting of the piece. Also the angle of the pose is really powerful and the composition is well thought out.
Just- WOW! I've always loved your watercolor work but this really takes the cake with the complexity and detail of the scene. She's gonna love it I cannot wait for the second movie so we get more badass dragon action.

Thanks, Riley ^^; It was kind of on a moment's inspiration, cause it started out as something completely different, but as excited as she is for the movies (and as much of a hardcore fan as she is of the books) I hope it turned into something a bit more meaningful XD
I totally thought I ruined for a while there, I'm not used to such heavy shading in watercolor X_X but Sepia worked wonders for it XD
Thanks again :) IT NEEDS TO BE NEXT YEAR LIKE, TEN MINUTES AGO, MISTER JACKSON!

We only just saw it the other day, because the friend I did this for didn't want to see it without me, and as we both leave for Christmas break tomorrow, that would have made a VERY long wait XD But it was fantastic, and we plan on trying to get together again over break to drag another of her friends and my brother to it :D
Thank you for the fave and comment ^^
