I had
matrices come over a couple weeks back, and we both made kigus for ourselves! It's always fun to work on patterns with her, and this came out just awesome.
This took me about 3 days of hard work, and I'm still nowhere near where I should be if I wanted to offer commissions for these. Trust me, the internal construction isn't nearly as elegant as my finish work, and I don't anticipate owning/wearing this thing longer than 6 months-1 year tops.
My cat Zodiac sure seems to think my new "blanket costume" is the greatest thing to happen in her life.

That means extra a lot coming from you, thanks!
Yeah, every applique piece was separate, but at least I was smart enough to use a walking foot for everything, and to trim details like scallop markings on the wings AFTER sewing the lines, not before.
I'd like to come up with a better way to finish the attachment with the hood to the neck. Mine is just a raw serged edge at the moment, which I'm personally fine with, but wouldn't be satisfied selling to someone. And my buttonholes are pretty sloppy. The ones I did for
and
used zippers, which were a little nicer, but still aren't great. I'm just lousy at sewing big lengths of fleece like the tummy seam without getting stretching and puckering. I'm using some fusible interfaces now, but that just adds time and material cost to these things.
I doubt kigus will become a new "thing" of mine though. I don't really enjoy working in large amounts of fleece. Big yardages take up big space, and we're super cramped with
taking up most of the available room. Personal use only, haha!

Smart solution with the applique. The alternative is a lot of pinning.
Have you seen how we do our necks? If not, we can hag out at FC and geek on sewing.
Ehermagerd, buttonholes. I think I've done ONE good buttonhole evar! They break my brain. And then there's the ones that are sewn internally. Good gerd that's some technical sewing. I totally prefer to set in a zipper than to stitch a buttonhole.
The secret with long sections of fleece is to notch your pieces at regular intervals where they should line up. Then all you have to do is go notch to notch and then your entire length is aligned. Notches are my friend! :)
You're telling me they take up space! When we go to FC, we fill a minivan with merch and then go back for everything else. And, we have a mini warehouse with palette racks to hold our inventory. It's cray! M and I are always on about how cool it would be to have small stuff so that we could travel lighter to sales... and be able to to more cons.
Butanyway... your kigurumi is freakin' RAD!
