What kind of a story would it be if she didn't?

To explain the context here, she and some other police officers were put on guard duty to protect a shipment of toys that is going to be on its way to charity.

After all, one thing you sometimes see in fiction (not sure how often this happens in reality, but that's not important right now. Akila and all the people she interacts with are fictional, after all) is that when certain toys get into high demand, some enterprising criminal will steal those and sell them on the black market for inflated prices. Sure, Tickle-Me-Elmo has no value to the criminal himself, but being able to sell one for a good price makes it profitable.

So of course, it's entirely plausible, nay, perhaps likely, that there may be a truck jacking taking place. Thus, Akila needs to be on guard.
