Lineart by Nivalis70 of deviantART, found *here*
WIP 1: Flatcolor Stage
WIP 2: Basic Light & Shading Stage
WIP 3: Preliminary Detailing
It's been far too long since I did some lineart coloring, and I found this over at the Color-Me-Club on dA and decided to give it a shot :3 It's a nice little breather from the 3D modeling, bringing me back to my digital painting roots.
With a piece like this, the art looks like itself rather than an abstract (as the skin textures for 3D models do), and I don't have to jump between programs every 10 minutes to make sure things are lining up seamlessly. It's nice to work this way every so often XD
As of Upload 1, WIP 1, I've done the flatcolor stage and blocked out the two horses, their manes, and their tack in separate layers, along with the snowflakes, breath fog, and a simple gradient background. The next stage is to add some simple block lighting and shading. After that will be the detail work of texturing the hair, brass, and leather.
UPLOAD 2: SHADED VERSION!
As of Upload 2, WIP 2, I've added in the missing reigns, fixed the leg coloring, and added in the basic shading and lighting for the horses and their gear. The shading is very quick n dirty, but lends some support to the upcoming high-detail stage. It will be refined as needed.
UPLOAD 3: DETAILED VERSION!
As of Upload 3, WIP 3, the preliminary detailing is in! Hair and mane strands have been done on lighting and shading layers. They'll need a little more refining and some additional support shading and lighting to bring the anatomy more into focus and properly adjust the depth. Also, I've added in the markings at this point :3
Coming up next, I'll be refining the detail and colors, and figuring out a background to paint in. I'm toying with a couple options and have one blocked in, but it's something I haven't tried before, so I may go with my simpler second option.... /ambiguous XD
I'm really having fun with this. :3 My computer is starting to complain on loading and saving it though. This view is only 20% of the full size, and it's on about 40 layers right now, 20 per horse. I might be obsessed with grouping and organizing, but the overlay/multiply technique I use to get this level of detail calls for some serious space sometimes XD
