I remember when my parents went through that phase of avoiding toy guns....

I think it ultimately failed because I have a pretty good imagination and would improvise with play-doh or at a pinch my sibling and I would simply throw anything we could pick up at each other.

When I was a teen, I help teach a younger kid next door how to read. Afterwards, we would all go out and play (I love kids and their imaginations) with his two younger siblings.

I would bust out with my Star Trek toys and we would run around their yard with plastic light-up phasers and tricorders and fight weird aliens.

Eventually, his parents (who were very religious) told them that if I tried to "make them play with guns" again, they weren't allowed to play with me.
