I've been known to sew from time to time and after doing a crappy attempt at the first one I decided to learn from my prototype mistakes and make another carrier for momo. c:
Because she's hairless her warmth is very important if I go out with her. When summer rolls around I'll make another one with a screen in the front for air.
SO, the features are:
soft fleece lining
topstitched seams so she can't chew her way out
quilted/enforced bottom for warmth
velcro door for traveling
velco-secured pocket for treats and goodies
quick-release shoulder snap
has a microwavable rice pouch for warmth.
She's so chill in it that it's funny. XD She has been riding around on my shoulder in the house but I wanted a way to carry her around people who don't have rat-proof homes or don't like them.
I still have a travel-cage for long trips so don't freak out about that. -w-

Just hiccups. c: It's because I woke her up to put her on my shoulder.

They're super smart and actually build bonds with their owners.

They can also be huge fatties. Like, my friend has two and anytime she even has a bag of chips or something that makes too much noise, one of her boys just puts the moves on for free snacks.

-snrk- XD Right now she thinks carrots and cornflakes are the best things ever. I'm going to try not to introduce her to 'bad food' so she never craves it.
Somehow I think a fat naked rat would be a little unsightly!

O_O this is awesome. Dude, I would totally buy one of these from you if you made them to sell. This is just as good if not better than anything I could make myself (I'm terrified of sewing machines, I stitch by hand, lol) and I know plenty of other rat folks who would adore this. This is seriously good work, keep it up :D

So cute! I hope to get a naked rattie one day, a local store sells them and I just found out the other week. I love my boys to death and can't ever spoil them enough http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7394284/ they're all so much larger and scruffier now, all old ratties. the poor mouse is gone now =(

I'm honestly torn between wanting to get momo a cagemate and wanting to spoil the hell out of her. I'm just afraid of too many what-ifs. what if I don't click with a second rat? what if she doesn't get along with her? What if I treat momo better?
for now, she's just getting extra attention. I don't have the cage space yet for two.

Rats are VERY social animals, most people recommend cage mates. if she's a young rat then there shouldn't be much of a problem. I introduce Rhino in with my two boys and he did just fine with them. Introducing them in a neutral area with treats is good, just keep an eye on them, they could bond instantly or take some time. Rat's from feeders are used to being in cramped cages with several other rats, so they're more apt to be okay with others than breeder rats.
most likely she won't, feeder rats aren't separated by gender, so most likely it was males trying to mate with her that did the scratching up. They really aren't aggressive animals and in almost all cases, LOVE other rats We've had rats for years and years and only had a problem with one breeding pair.
