December, 1993: I was spending my second (and last) Christmas in Reading, Pennsylvania (prior to my relocation to Margate, Florida in the following month).
Meanwhile, in Broward County, Florida, the December issue of "Brow-Beat" - the official journal of the local branch of MENSA - was just published, with its semi-colorful cover illustrated by Hungarian-born artist Lya Korda - an individual who I would not meet until a decade later, when I'd joined Scrabble Club 276 (where she was one of its oldest members).
A few months after Korda passed away in September, 2011 (when she was in her early 90s), I was able to obtain a small assortment of her artwork , as a lasting memory of my semi-regular Scrabble opponent. Among her imagery were the covers of back issues of "Brow-Beat" - many of which I'd posted here in my "FA" gallery.
Last year, I'd presented two "Peace on Earth" images by Lya, mainly involving non-anthro animals. And, with Christmas Eve merely hours away, I cannot think of a better way to honor her (one more time) than to present one more "Peace on Earth" illo.
Among the menagerie this time are rabbits, hedgehogs, birds, and even larger fauna - such as a wolf and a deer. I especially love the way Lya blends the reindeer with their tall antlers amongst the trees (whose branches have a similar resemblance).
Naturally, I've decided to post a larger version of said "Brow-Beat" cover art, so you can see all the intricate details that Lya had added to this incredible illustration - not just in the inclusion of the animals (and the two humans in the background), but in the pine tree and the stars in the sky. I hope that you appreciate her talents, as much as I do.
As 2012 comes to an end, I hope that all of you reflect on the events of the year (both good and bad), and that you and your loved ones have something special to appreciate in your lives... each other!
A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
