Step Two: Cut off a flat edge for stability
Choose a side and slice off an edge so this way you can prop the watermelon up without worrying about it rolling away. You can choose any side you like. I personally like having the watermelon to stand tall. For a wider, larger watermelon, slicing off the long side as the bottom edge is the best way. The watermelon I used is, for the most part, pretty round like a ball.
Hint: Seedless "personal" watermelons bought at the store are great for practicing your carvings, and are nice as small gifts.
