Step Six: Come up with a simple design in your head, and start marking the watermelon at key points to guide your hand. If you need to draw the simple design on paper, you can do so before this step.
I am going with a three point leaf design. I cut little slits into four sides to make a guide for my knife. I am eye-balling my design, but you can trace your design with the blunt edge of your knife if you feel less confident.
Hint: There are many different designs you can do. Don't be afraid of your watermelon coming out uneven. Having different shapes, and lengths of petals and leaves make for an interesting 360 degree design. plus, no natural flower or plant is 100% symmetric.
