This is an edited version of the image I did this week for Menagerie,
Myenia and I's mailing list. I've been wanting to do a character with henna designs for quite some time now, and NO, I have no idea how you'd do that on fur, it's just pretty and stop questioning it. It's pretty :P
This was done on Bristol, in ink and watercolor. It will be available in the FC Art Show.

Stupid lack of editting...
"Well you could dye the fur.....Thats how I've always written it, if it was a fantasy or modern setting is fur dye...Well in fantasy setting....In more Sci-Fi settings I always had it as either implanted nanomachines or implanted fiberoptic hairs..."
Fixed. :p

Really nicely done! A rabbit who is VERY rabbit-ish is always a happy sight! And I think the Henna would be doable- the whole "tattoo'd fur" thing sort of bugged me art-wise, until I found a book about people who paint cats. You can get some surprising detail too! http://www.amazingmania.com/img/paintedcats1.jpg So henna on fur of an anthro? Totally believable in my book!
He does look more rabbit than hare, doesn't he? Kind of a tough call, but the gentleness of the face and length of the ears are what give me pause.
Also 'Why Paint Cats' was more or less a spoof of art books: http://www.snopes.com/photos/arts/paintedcats.asp - still an interesting read though. :)

I'm a very bad furry, and I'm actually not that versed on the differences between a rabbit and a hare. I just love the fact that he looks like a lagomorph, since rabbits and hares, like kangaroos, often get butchered in artwork. He's really quite wonderful either way!
And I had no idea that book was supposed to be a hoax! *laughs* Here I thought folks actually /DID/ that, and while I was somewhat disgusted by it, still intrigued in it's implications for anthros. I bought a copy of it some time back as a reference for drawing/writing about anthros with tattoos and similar artificial colors and markings. I feel ever-so-silly now! :D

They're more developmental differences, but there are anatomical differences as well.
You're welcome! I had to learn this stuff when I started portraying a rabbit. More than anything, it's the distinction between hare/jackrabbit and bunny/rabbit that I tend to nitpick on, but I'll let our dear
rukis have a reprieve. XD

he's based on an Indian hare: http://www.indianaturewatch.net/ima.....8779a7e0f7.JPG
I tried to make it resemble an actual hare as much as possible, while still maintaining my style elements, like his eyes. I'd hoped I'd done alright. . . seemed pretty close, at least.

Henna would work on fur actually! Henna is used also to dye hair to a coppery-color, I use it in my hair. Sometimes henna is used on horses: http://www.ace-egypt.org.uk/library.....orse-SMALL.jpg I couldn't find one with intricate designs, but the legs and the handprints were done with henna. I imagine on fur it would be applied just like an ordinary henna tattoo.
