I think a lot of people rush thought the base, thinking that once they fur it all of the mistakes will be glossed over by the magical fur. It's certainly a mistake. It's no different in drawing.. If you rush through the sketch and don't take the time to check proportions, balance, composition, etc, no amount of lining, coloring or shading is going to hide those errors.
The fur is such a small part of the piece. :) You spent your time working on the right things ;)
