Random. The purpose was to do an all ballpoint piece again. I try to do one or more every year, it's a great exercise in hand-eye coordination. The dog thinger was an afterthought, I just wanted to keep going. :P

Amazing job, as I'm sure everyone else will say. You have a superb attention to detail, and your ability to control your media is astounding. Both of them look great in this piece. I see nothing that needs to corrected or altered. This is a solid piece through and through.
