I'm also a trumpet player. The only other instrument that I have any experience with is the piano...and not a lot of it.

I personally play trumpet, sax, and bass, I've got a bit of time on the piano but not much, enough to read basic sheet music, and I know a few chords on guitar... that's it for me though x3

Although I've played trumpet longer, sax is perhaps my favorite instrument. I took to it like a fish to water myself, I had absolutely no trouble learning the basics. I almost feel like I could get really good at this instrument if I tried, and I haven't felt that way about other instruments... it's a wonderful little instrument for sure.

My fave song for the french horn is "American Eldgy" by Eric Witicre (I think) second is "Africa" I forget who it is by. Gosh come to think of it i haven't even listed my fave songs for pep band or mellowphone songs in marching band. there are so many. But I think the best peice for french horns in an orchestra is "Pavanne"

I play violin, and have a soprano horn sans mouthpiece, so I can play a total of three notes on that, lol.

Curved or strait alto? I know it's usually sop saxes that're strait, but humor an old man.

And you wind guys don't know the POWER of the PERCUSSION SIDE!

Sure I can read sheet music. Since I am 5 I can read it. Sometimes I play by ear.
I used to play flute in an orchestra in our city. Was fun. Together with both of my sisters and my mother (I played flute, my eldest sister too, my other sister clarinette and my mother trombone). I also played trumpet for a few month, but as you I couldn't pick it up. My one sister is studying music now. She played cello, clarinette, bassoon and piano. Also some older instruments I never heard about.

Well, I actually like many different styles of music. I'm not so into classic, but it depends on what kind of classic. I like the "Brandenburgischen Konzerte" of J.S. Bach, I guess it is number 4, don't know. I played it together with my sister. A flute duet. Sounds great. In the orcherstra we used to play mostly movie soundtracks. Really awesome and fun. Most soundtracks use violins, but in the orchestra the flutes took the part of the violins.

And flute is really not hard to learn. I still think it's the easiest instrument.

Heheh, flute probably wouldn't be too hard, I actually know all the fingerings and stuff already (since they're the same as sax fingerings) however, dental issues sorta keep me from getting very good, just like trumpet. Sax however I have a feeling in time I'll be able to get good at. I'm excited. x3

Sounds like we have similar tastes in music too, I love playing things like movie themes. I also love video game music, I arrange that for my band all the time x3 Classical is okay if you get the right song.... how do you feel about jazz and swing? Those are probably my favorite styles, along with latin :3

^^ Yeah quite musical family. I wouldn't say I am that good in playing flute. I also had detal issues and stopped playing four years ago. I should try it again. It is fun and it's a good practice for the fingers and the brain. Like playing piano. It's good to train the right side of the brain. Siencist say it's the "artistic" side and since I am right hander (weird word) I mostly train my left side.
I got in touch with music through my family. I only have older siblings and my mother always loved music. So she and my elder sister began to play first. And it was just a matter of time till I wanted it too.

Oh yeah, video games music is awesome too. You arrange that for your band? How? Do you write the sheets for the music? I mean by ear or something?
With jazz and swing it's the same. It depends on the song. I don't like everything, but I like jazz. I also played flute in a big band for a short time. Wasn't that good. Mostly because the songs they chose were bad and the person who payled the first clarinette was a selfish snobbish moron. I don't say he wasn't good, because he was, but how he acted was so stupid.
Latin is great too, although I never played it. As I said, I haven't played for a rather long time and the flute I have is not an expensive one. My sisters flute was much more expensive and if you compare them you will notice that, but my flute sounds much better than all of the flutes we had in the orchestra. Much better.

I actually have a program that uses MIDI to write sheet music, and you can transpose and stuff with it, and also play it to hear what your arrangement will sound like... if it wasn't for that I'd never be able to do it. But sometimes I'll do it by ear, sometimes I'll do it from existing sheet music, there's a bunch of ways I do it with that program. Very handy :P Then I just print it out and we play it. I could never play anything without sheet music x3 We take a lot of the music from the Mario and Zelda series of games. Basically, we're a bunch of nerds with horns, and it's -so- much fun. You'd have to join us if you where here x3 And it would be nice to have a good flute player around for once, all ours suck XD

Hmm, maybe. I downloaded this program "Final Notepad" because I searched for a sheet of the music of SH 2. I had to install it to open the file. And since I already had it I played a bit with it. I didn't make anything new, I just copied from another existing sheet some things and played with the program. It was fun I have to admit. What kind of program do you use?

And, I dug my flute up in my closet. I played it again. One song from "Princess Mononoke". The last time I played it was four of five years ago. You cannot imagine how good that felt. Ok, I guess you can. It felt incredible good and since I don't wear the braces anymore the sound was great. Even better than I can imagine it. It was so...so I cannot even find words. The years without being played in this wet and cold room took their toll on my poor flute, but she never sounded better than now. I am so excited. Now I only have to find some duets for flute and piano so I can play with my sister together. Or some other good songs to play alone. I hardly have anything decent.

Ah. but you have to understand... "hot" has different meanings to different people. I personally am actually -much- more of a fan of more tomboyish girls. "Girlie" girls have never done it for me. You know, a tomboyish girl, they look like someone I wouldn't have to be afraid of being a little rough with, you know what I mean? You can have more fun with them >:3 And I find they generally have better and more interesting personalities as well. Tomboys are just... hotter. XD I'd totally take a girl in jeans and hoodie over a girl in a dress, any day ;P

Oooh, Finale Notepad? I got that a while back so I could start learning piano with it. It's a decent program for finding and printing sheet music, but I don't find I like it much for writing. The system is sort of weird and confining. But that's just me. Noteworhty Composer I tend to like more, it's just very easy to work with once you figure everyting out.

I'm impressed you would have no problem picking it up like that after so long, if I go more than a few weeks without playing trumpet I really start to struggle. I used to play clarinet but I kinda sucked. Then I started playing the acoustic cube, (imagine a cube-shaped harp with five sides covered with strings tuned to no particular note) which I must say I also sucked at. For about the fist day I knew that I was probably the greatest player in the world until my friend took it from me and played it better than I could. And so ended my short musical career.

And if you can play clarinet, you practically can play sax already- the mouth work is only slightly different, and sax fingerings are the same as the upper register on clarinet. So, an A on sax is the same as an A on clarinet, thumb and two fingers. Except, the difference is the low register on sax is exactly the same, so it's even easier to learn than clarinet.

Anyway, I'll stop blabbing, but yes, sax is sexy ;3 Thanks :P

Tuba's aren't very sexy. But we make up for it by being generally AWESOME

But yeah, they are awesome. I love the warm sound they get, it's so pretty, almost as good as a cello or string bass, they can be absolutely beautiful in the right songs, and work great for dixie. Tubas are awesome :P
