The biggest roadblocks I've faced are the thighs and the shoulders, and I've got the basic structure of the rig for those two locations pretty much complete. It's not "lifelike perfect" by any means, and there's still more tweaking to do (the rig and the mesh), but I've made quite a bit of progress. The rest should (hopefully) be just an exercise in review to do the arms, fingers, and head.
Next steps will be to rig her arms all the way down, then the basic head and ears, breasts, and tail. Then facial expressions, though I already have a basic rig from that which I created for my last (horrible failure of a) model. Once I've got the basic rig down I'll probably go back through and clean things up, as well as tweak the mesh a little more. Right now the nice chubbyness I had around the middle got smoothed out at some point, so she looks a little off.
Baby steps, baby steps...

Oh no, that's a common thread I'm running into when I go out searching for any help at all in getting those areas rigged right. Hands, feet, legs, arms... lots of tutorials on those. But nobody's been able to come up with a shoulder/thigh tutorial that's broad enough so that it can be used on any model.
I did a lot of work on the shoulder rig this weekend when I discovered some flaws (twisting the arm was simply not coming out right), and it's a step in the right direction I think. I may end up redoing the thigh rig with what I've learned redoing the shoulder.

T'is Blender indeed, notorious open-source 3D modeling program available free of charge that is much like a soapy four quart enema. The first time is embarassing and messy. The subsequent sessions get less and less messy as you gain experience and things get easier and more enjoyable. Then eventually you'll find you want to do it all the time, even though you might not tell just anyone about your dirty little secret, for fear of being publically ridiculed and shunned by your friends and family.
