Well it's pretty simple to take care of, notoriously reliable, has decent iron sights, and it's a heavy hitter. I don't know that anyone would want to clear rooms with it, but it was one of the preeminent battle rifles of the cold war era and a hell of a lot of countries have and still use it. I imagine long timers might feel kind of like uS forces did when they switched from the M-14 to the M-16.
A friend of mine is in a Member of the mechanized infantry and told me when it comes to weapons he uses the P8 and a modernized HK G3A4. He was in Afghanistan and said that the G36 is useless when its scope gets dirty. Not to mention that the effect on a Taliban is very big when a 7,62x51 Bullet goes right through a brick Wall.
I've seen people move around with it pretty well. But being a battle rifle it's just kind of naturally heavy, all of them were. FALs, M-14s, SIG 510s, they were all heavy but not so much that mobility was a problem. Now you probably wouldn't want to be doing room clearing with such a thing, but for running around in the world they seem to do well.
Loaded, a common rank-and-file G3 weighs about 11 and a half pounds. As a Swedish home-guard soldier, it's part of my kit and I can see why it would be an agreeable weapon for combat in mountainous terrain, over smaller caliber weapons. Even though mine is only fitted with a simple red-dot sight, I've had no problem hitting targets at 350m under "combat conditions".
That is, while ducking, crawling, running, shouting.

Because this essentially is a G3...
PTR-91s are made on old HK tooling and are basically identical to HK-91s which were the semi-auto civil model of the G3. In fact if I drilled it for G3 trigger groups and swapped out a few key parts it would be a G3 :P

I dunno, I need to do further testing to see how this thing actually affects recoil. The biggest thing that holds me back from shooting this thing more is that when I go to buy .308 I can only ever find JSP or match because god forbid anyone stock regular cheap FMJ for any reason XP
