Character design for sale time!
With me moving to my new place on the 16th I could really use the extra cash so hopefully I can turn out a few more designs to sell! @ o @
This one is a Daegas (day-ghas) Dragon! They're a type of dragon from one of my headworlds (namely the one H'jad is from). This particular design is based on the Grey Crowned Crane from Africa~ ((Decided to keep this fella for myself!))
About the Daegas
The Daegas are an ancient race of dragons hailing from the Osterian main island in the high cliffs and mountains. Craved deep into the recesses of stone the Daegas live and work, being the Record Keepers of the World. The interiors of the mountains are lined with scrolls and books, each written by countless generations of Daegas from the beginning of their time. Oddly enough every Daegas is blind and has no eyes or evidence of their kind ever having such. They see using highly sensitive pits on their snout as well as using their hands, which are highly dexterous. Every dragon wears a special head covering that denotes their position within the scholarly arts. Depending on what section of the library they work in and write for the symbol, style, and color of their head covering will differ.

Good question! :D
They can actually without having to touch one another! The symbols (according to section) are sewn with special threads that have been soaked in a pheromone that's incredibly strong. They can "see" the symbol as well as recognize the order the other Daegas is from, coupled with the individual's scent that's how they know each other without touching. As far as foreign creatures go they typically don't run into them due to their location alone. That isn't to say it doesn't happen when something new strays in, but they are quick to study foreign creatures/objects and make logs in the books about them. The only "humans" per say that know where the Daegas are is the Osterian royal family and through interactions with them they've been introduced to scents from the human world that they can recognize as well.

By foreign creatures I've also meant Daegas that are unknown to them. I guess that this depends of the type of community they make. If it's a small community, then your explanation is good, since everyone knows everyone. I thought they lived in a bit larger community (book making, etc = lots of work!) and actually actively breeding... That would make things complicated.
They all live in one central location in the mountains so there isn't much of that happening! Pretty much every Daegas knows every Daegas, and very rarily are there new offspring as they are all pretty long lived. :D The head of their order is well over a millennium in age. Their community is fairly large for the work they do but not enormous enough to be filled with strangers if that makes any sense. :D
