Its a beautiful place down town. There aren't even all the photo's I have from walking around that day. I have a bunch from the topiary park that I'm uploading another time. I was only planning to go there but turned out I walked half way to where we were meeting up that night. So I just kept going and taking pictures along the way. There are still a few places I want to get photos.
Mayor Coleman (a Democrat who is unusual in that he understands how to keep a city from becoming a dung heap) works closely with Nationwide Insurance and other large businesses which are the biggest employers, and therefore the biggest source of taxable income, in trying to keep the downtown vital.
The site of the Columbus Commons used to be a city-owned mall call City Center. It was a great place, until it became a hangout for gangs, and the courts would not let security kick them out. As mall traffic dwindled, due to the danger, and alternatives like Tuttle Crossing, Easton, and Polaris, stores closed. The place became almost a ghost town.
So, they eventually tore it down and replaced it with the Columbus Commons, bringing the Picnic With The Pops downtown, amongst other things.
