My old art teacher used to have us practice on glass. Just put a few random colored objects and geometric shapes, clear glasses and bottles with various amounts of water, and a strong single direction light. Then have us practice drawing them to learn how the light and shadows play off all the objects when grouped together, and goes through water and reflects off glass and stuffs. It was challenging but fun.
