2012 Holiday card design I painted for two good friends back in December.

Foxes and Wolves are both members of family Canidae.
Wolves are members of genus Canis, Foxes are member of genus Vulpes.
Now, Canis means dog directly, but it's surely clear that Canidae is derivative of Canis.
While it might be technically more correct to group them as Canids, rather than Canines, many dictionaries consider the words to be interchangeable.
As such, it is still correct to consider all foxes to be canines, while not all canines are foxes.
Wolves are members of genus Canis, Foxes are member of genus Vulpes.
Now, Canis means dog directly, but it's surely clear that Canidae is derivative of Canis.

I interpreted your comment "Foxes are Vulpine.. but still kewt." as you taking issue with the fact that he's holding a book for canines. I could be mistaken, but a statement that includes "but still" usually means that you consider something incorrect.
You're not the only person that has been upset, shall we say, over someone calling a fox a canine. It happens quite often around here, and I think it's not too hard to see how I could assume you were also of the same mistaken impression.
