Another lacquered bristol piece, for an Xmas present. This was the most complex one I've done to date, with a lot of layers.
My friend's favorite song is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxls60aYSZA
which was perfect for illustrating.
I'm open for commissions on these guys, if anyone's interested.

I start with a basic ink on bristol, then colour (ink, markers, acrylic wash, coloured pencil, white ink, gel pen -- whatever I need to do to get the job done that's waterproof). Then several layers of white glue/non-yellowing varnish in various combinations. Then the pieces are assembled with rolled paper things glued under them I call "bumpers" to make them stand out/up, placed so they won't show when the thing is on the wall. Then finally I thread 'em with a bit of ribbon for hanging.
The finished pieces are quite sturdy. I usually shake 'em vigorously to make sure they won't fall apart
It's really good ol' 1980's papercraft technology. I'm sure others have done this sort of thing before. It's fiddly to work with but I like the result.
