Copypaste description from DA since it's a longer one, sorry about that! Also still thinking of doing a new watermark for my works instead of just link to DA.
Been looking at some really nice wildlife paintings lately and also browsing the galleries of my DA idols who really inspired me when I was younger, and still do! I really felt like starting a big painting again, last time I did something like this traditionally must have been years ago. But I'm surprised how quick I got it done, years ago I would have spent weeks on it but got it done in a few days now.
Guess cos I've improved with stuff in general so I could apply what I'd do digitally to traditional stuff.
But yeah I almost forgot how relaxing painting with real media is, was almost like therapy to get my thoughts off some other things haha.
I tried to make it as realistic as possible, but apparently to get even finer details in I'd need a bigger canvas as well. Was using my smallest brushes but even with them I didn't manage to put the details in as small size as I wanted them to be. Oh well still enjoyed making this.
The background is inspired by some savannah photos I saw and the leopard is based on a photo I took at a zoo last year. Quite happy with this one, even though like I said would like it to be even more detailed but was lacking bigger canvases. something for the future then maybe :D
Size A3 paper (11x16"), painted with acrylics. Some touch ups with a white coloured pencil.
The painting was too big for my scanner so I had to take a photo. That's why it might appear a bit blurry in some places, hope not too bad.
Like I mentioned, this painting was inspired by some of my favourite artists and inspirations who years ago gave me the first big spark to start painting and trying to improve even more and whose work was among the first galleries I discovered on DA, namely balaa goldenwolf and lately Guy Coheleach as well - http://www.guysart.com/
Beautiful work they all have! :)

this is amazing. Dont criticize yourself for the level of detail, cos you've achieved an astonishing detail for
an A3 canvas. the fur, markings and whiskers are rather impressive, but I think the lighting and patches of shadow
in the grass around it is even more so. Did you have to paint lights over darks for that?
fricken good job... damn... you da bomb.

Thanks so much! A3 is quite big compared to the size I normally work in traditionally but would definitely like to try a lot bigger canvas too for the experience and see how much detail I can cram in there XD
but yeah the order I did this in was pretty much from dark to light. Or started with blocking out the cool and warm shadows (with just blue and orange), then put a wash of the "flat colours" on top, then started building in by doing the dark and most distant areas first and then the light strokes on top. Was a bit experimental but think that kind of an order worked for me :) found a few tutorials online and combined them a bit to my own 'taste'!

I really do recommend painting on a huge canvas. Even if by the end of it you hate it and never want to go so big again, its just something good to try. Along with the mental stimulation of drawing, you have the physical stimulation of HUGE brush strokes. its like a dance XD
Painting the darks first is usually contrary, but I find it great so long as the paint stays wet. makes for really good gradients :3 ...ever done anything with oils?

Yeah will definitely try that out too! 8D very excited to give it a go hopefully soon, might be able to find some nice bigger canvases at my uni's own art store!
Sounds epic the way you described it! 8D traditional painting can sure be very very relaxing and nice, I also enjoy the brush strokes a lot too XD
I think it's a lot easier to build in that way too, guess it's also cos I'd kinda to it that way digitally too! As for oils I think I've tried them a few times, was a long time ago though. Oh all the traditional art things I'd love to try out again XD I think the smell of oils was really strong though? Always thought it was something I couldn't try at home as easily, not sure why. But hopefully will get a chance to paint something with oils again, if not home then at uni!

Eee thank you :D ooh well that's a great compliment ;u; I like how Blotch can do all their paintings really 'clean' and crisp, will still have to learn how to do that too (might have to do with the big canvas then XD)! But I like the painterly look too, especially when it fades in the bg, seen that in some wildlife paintings when it goes from realism to that painterly fade and thought it looked cool 8D
I really don't get the relation of viewer number and faves... I mean how can only 122 out of 243 fave this? It's not only here, in general people are faving so rarely in comparison to how much pieces they look at. .___.
It's not like anyone goes through your favourites gallery, guys...
however, as I lack experience in traditional painting and find it rather difficult, this painting is even more impressive to me. I love the colour contrast and the motive. The big cat is just beautiful, the piece in general is really beautiful.

Ah no not printer paper, I think it was a watercolour paper. Just some paper I bought from uni cos I got it cheap XD I think it was this one http://www.seawhite.co.uk/online/in.....product_id=717 :D
What a beautifully lit piece and a divine creature therein. I am humbled to be listed among your influences..and wholly undeserving to be placed beside the other two. Guy Coheleach is one of my favorite wildlife painters as well. This piece, the color palette, lighting, and brushstrokes in this piece actually remind me of the work of John Seerey-Lester whom is my absolute favorite wildlife painter. His use of soft atmospheric light and more free and expressive brushstrokes just makes me wiggle happily in my chair. The piece this reminded me of specifically was Black magic which is my favorite favorite piece of his <:!
Ohh, thanks for the comment Balaa! ♥ and you've definitely always been one of my biggest inspirations if not the biggest and I've always looked up to you and your work! ^_^ keep up being epic!
Wow thanks for the name too, I looked up his art and definitely enjoying it! Quite an honour that you think this picture reminds you of his work!
