I love this composition so far! What a cute character :3
As for using black ink on the spots...you always could do that and then go over it with white colored pencil or get really fancy and use another high-contrast, lighter color! I just started doing that and changing up how I color and I find that going from dark/light is easier and looks better than going from light/dark, even if it seems to be a little less logical.

adding light to dark works only when the surface is rough enough to hold the pigments. on ink it should work well, pencil on pencil is almost invisible later; but there are other medias to be used if needed. :)
it never hurts to experiment, and I'll try out those methods later for sure! thank you for the tips. ^^
also, good to hear from you again! I was afraid that you one day popped, drained and dried up while we weren't looking... I really missed your arts.
