Dunno why, just kinda felt like posting this. Done in a classroom (because the battle of the bands there it was our prize) with shitty recording equipment a couple of years ago. Meh =/ hope you enjoy.

Cool =3. If you want tune your guitar to drop D, the easiest way to go about it is tune your low E string down to match your d string. You're 7th fret once tuned down should now be an A (as oppossed to on the 5th fret being an A in standart tuning). Hope that helps, if not not and you're still unsure, just ask I won't mind.
thanks, i had a good teacher nad im a good learner (i inhereted a bit of a photographic memory from my dad) i learned how to drive a stick in an hour ^^ but i whish i got intorduced to guitars and furries earlier to life ive only know i was a furry for about half a year now >_< but thanks for everything every little bit of help helps =3
Same =3 Well I find it's mostly personal taste (what bands do ya like?), but I would suggest finding a good distortion tone first. Think of what bands you really like the guitar tone in and go from there. I find that using alot of bass and a fairly hi gain/distortion and treble levels work well with a very low mid.. resembling something along the lines of what Metallica uses..
Secondly a key element of metal is palm muting and getting fast at it. Palm muting involves resting your picking hands' palm right at the bridge resting on the strings you want to mute and then strumming the notes/strings with your palm still muting the strings by the bridge. Not sure if you're familar with Palm muting but it may take a little while to get the feel and find the sweet spot for it.
Also now that you are in drop D tuning you can now play power chords as a simple bar chord and easily hammer on and pull off to other power chords much quicker and more easily.
Also pentatonic scales are essential if you want to dive into some soloing (i just used my ears but the scales certainly would of helped :P)

You're welcome. Not using a pic would be weird for rock music I think but I know people who don't use a pic either as well.
