Kael appears to be using patented Dwarven technology. Flight is old-hat knowledge to the proud dwarven folk, who, although not particularly designed for sustained aeronautical travel, have the great, yearning passion for flying that keeps them trying, time and time again, long after they no longer have the muscle control to pick themselves up off the ground.
