This is my new pet rat! Here he is in his carrier back from the petstore. :3 He's such a cutie, I love him. He is a Dumbo Rat (look at his ears! <3 )
He's been sneezing though and that has me concerned of mycoplasmia. However, he wasn't sneezing at the store, so lets just hope he's being sneezy from the stress of travel and dusty CareFresh bedding!
He wasn't sneezing this morning until after I started handling him and took him to my room to hold him while I did my work, so I'm thinking its the stress. My poor baby.
He's such a sweetheart. :> Also, good news! I haven't been sad in like, two days. That is amazing. I thought I'd be depressed forever!
Rusko will also probably be drawn in my drawings as my companion. :D

I've been reading everywhere and I'm hoping my rat doesn't have those problems. In this magazine/book thing I have on rats, it said to give them 4 hours of some sort of attention per day. I did just that, Rusko was on my shoulder almost all day the moment I got back home from school. C:
He was also on his own in the pet store like the other two tags they had. It was amazing to get my parents to agree with getting one, let alone 2! I'll see if I can get a second male by my birthday...

He could be fine on his own if you give him daily attention :o I say keep toys and such in his cage in the meantime so he doesn't get too bored. They're intelligent critters that require mental stimulation to be happy and healthy. :) My boys love playing with/chewing on cardboard toilet paper tubes!
He has a tissue box for a nesting box, a chewing block thing, and thing twine ball with a bell in it that he doesn't use much. When I take him out today, I need to take the ball too, and see if he'll play with it. When I get some more cash, buy a run around ball and some more toys maybe. Or make toys. This one thing I read online is that they can have lots of fun if you use sterile soil, plant a bunch of edible seeds and leave them to sprout, then give it to your rat to dig around in to eat and find.
I'll probably take a shoe box, fill it with CareFresh, and hide food and little pieces of fruit in there for him to find. :3

Here's the excerpt from the thing since I have it saved to the home screen of my phone, but not as a site:
"Digging Box
Most rats love a digging box. Take a small cat litter pan or other shallow plastic box and fill it halfway with plain sterilized potting soil (not treated with any chemicals or fertilizer, and with no additives like vermiculite). Plant some birdseed or wheat grass and water it for a while to let the seeds sprout and grow for a bit, then let your rats go crazy in the box. To minimize the mess, don't water the box for a day or two before offering it to your rats, and place it a bathtub or spread a tablecloth or newspapers around the box to contain the mess. Your rats will love to dig in the soil and snack on the sprouts or unsprouted seeds."
