Reposted over from DA, thought people here might like a gander at it. ^^
Okay, normally I don't do much fan art, but yeah, I loved this movie! < XD Saw it the other day on break with some buddies and was just blown away. Not often you can think of a musical as brutally violent. < XD
So yeah, I suggest seeing Sweeney Todd to anyone that can stomach some blatant violence. It's a wonderful film with great music and a return to form by Tim Burton.
Enjoy his grumpiness and happy and sad razors~
Um~ merry christmas? I feel weird with this being my christmas pic, but whatever I suppose. ^^;; Enjoy!

*Spoken as a musical theatre person* Sondheim wrote a master work. The melodies and harmonies instill a sense of terror and general unease. The words and subject manner only enhance this. Dispite this I think it's only hailed as good because its the first Musical to truely "Go There."
*Spoken as himself* Which I personally cannot take. I saw the musical on stage and had nightmares for a week. Cannibalism is the most disturbing thing in the world to me...
*Spoken as a nitpicker* Johnny Depp is too young and too damn skinny to play Sweeny, who is traditionally quite stout. But that could just be Tim Burton's obsession with twiglike protagonists. Helena Botnam Carter can pull off her role, but I get the feeling that she's only there since Tim Burton is having an affair with one or both of the pairing of Johnny Depp and HBC.
Oh, and he only has one Razor.

You know, it just occurred to me that it might actually make more sense in this particular case for Sweeney to be scrawny. After all, he can't have eaten that well in prison for all of those years.
And the movie gave him a whole box of razors, just for the record. Though I think he only ever used one at a time. Whatever the case, I think we can afford some artistic liberty. ;D

SWING YOUR RAZOR HIGH SWEENEY
HOLD IT TO THE SKIES!
FREELY FLOWS THE BLOOD OF THOSE
WHO MORALIZE!
Yeah, I missed the choral parts. I didn't miss some of the songs that were cut completely, though. I just wish some of the cast were allowed to express more. I found that alot of the humor of the original had been drained out.

I must say I grow weary of Tim Burton movies with Johnny Depp in them, not that I mind either, but it's almost become overwhelming at the stack of movies. But I suppose I would be the only red-blooded young american girl to complain at that. *cough*.Tim Burton has a draggingly similiar style to ALL his films and I wish for once to see something else- yes, dark, morbid overtones are fun, but can the pony do any other trick? However, I do wonder what the movie is like, depsite my regressions I would see it. The picture however is lovely and I just adore the angry sort of dismal expression on his face.
Really, ponies are made for one trick and one trick only. Stable jumpers who try to race get burned. Visa versa. Try James and the Giant Peach if you want to see Tim at his happiest.
The film is, however, just like the rest of his stuff... but I don't think that's bad. Really, you should go see it, with low expectations. The movie isn't doing so well, but still. It's great to see the actors sing. ... though one dingus I talked to about it couldn't stop complaining that Depp isn't a baritone.

I've seen that movie and the majority of his movies. Point being, I know the outcome, nothing suprises me or is really all that exciting for me anymore. Sure seeing the singing and such may be fun and gorey-ness may be nice other then just dispair. But even some of that has to be taken sparingly. It just seems to be the same stuff, dressed up in slightly different costumes and with slightly different names. That is my point. Its always nearly the same sort of protoganist/antoganist with similiar settings- bleh blah. It's more 'boring' then 'bad'. But I guess I am the only one whom would feel that way.
Really, I know the outcome of a lot of movies. Even movies that aren't suppose to be predictable. I'm just good like that ... but I try not to let that get to me. Perhaps being in such high hopes is why I almost never 'hate' any movie, no matter how bad it is. *shrugs* ... but ya. There was clearly some Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands in there...
