This is Sautharan, one of the "main six" of a comic my buddies and I work on in our free time. So far it's mostly be drawing and developing the characters visually while they suss out the story, no actual comic yet. But it's super fun, and I'm really attached to the characters!
Sautharan is a bone dragon, a species which possesses a power to sense life, to take it to nourish themselves (the essence of life, not just eating prey), and to give life if they so chose. They are a very sensitive species, Sautharan in particular is a very sensitive individual. He is bonded to his human rider, Dolan, as part of a group of young dragon riders who are pioneering the art.
You can see why this is fun to work on now. ;) Just a quick loose image to show off his design!

and this is an amazing dragon and he have amazing body. i must really improve my dragon anatomy >.> just one question i'm curious, where does the rider sit? ;p and do they have "saddle" or such? i'm quite intersted how do you put that cause i'm writing story about dragons myself.
Thank you! For most of the dragons, there is a simple harness and saddle system the rider uses. For poor Sautharan, he has to have some of his spine amputated to accommodate the rider and special gear. Sauth is willing to do it because he's basically soul bonded to his rider, like the other dragons. I'll have to draw the riding harness for them all to show how it works!
that makes sense. first i thought it would be an original idea to carve a suitable sit in one of the spine bones and add some harness to keep rider in place x3 but i guess it wouldnt be a good idea for the longer period of time as the dragon would grow up and probably not very comfortable for both. well keep up your good work and have as much fun as possible with your characters and friends! ^^
This reminds me a lot of my old bone dragon (thought mine has had less flesh and more bone then your's does!) I absolutely adore the half bone/fleshy style of dragons and this is another one I've seen in recent times that I just have to add to my collection of favorites. I hope to see more like this!
Wow, what a lovely design! It's detailed, but overall it's a pretty straight forward concept, I love it! I really like how you can push different or difficult poses, and with those big spines going back in perspective, it really makes a calm pose look very dynamic :D
I can't wait to see more from this story!
