The coon cat really had the crowd around the summoning field excited. Some cheered her on while others called out that she should back down. Four familiars to one summoner was something a student of magic had never done. Sure, for those more experienced it was doable, but rarely did such potential present itself in a beginner. This girl had talent for sure, but did she have the determination and willpower to control the fourth familiar? Tailswisher aimed to find out as shi held out the final scroll to her.
She reached out and grabbed it. A bead of sweat rolled down her face, but her eyes burned with determination as she took a deep breath and began to recite the spell. The crowd became utterly silent as they, and Tailswisher, focused all their attention on the cat to see what would happen.
The area began to darken, the sun momentarily blacked out from clouds and the area was lit with only a dark red glow. From the center grew a form that shimmered with power. The cat's brow furrowed, but she kept on reading until the final word was uttered and then opened her eyes to see what she had conjured. The crowd remained silent, except for a few gasps as all eyes looked upon a scalie figure in the field. It was a kobold! These dragon descendents were far removed from their magnificent ancestors, but still held their magical power. This made them very hard to control!
The girl was making low, deep breaths as she and the kobold stared at each other for what seemed like eternity. The kobold's eyes shimmered and swirled much like the magical gem on its chest. It slowly reached towards its chest gem and plunged its hand inside before pulling out a horned staff with another gem adorning it. It looked as if the kobold was going to succeed in fighting off the mental dominance of the coon cat until its eyes calmed and turned a blank yellow to represent its submission.
The crowd burst into applause and as the girl looked over at Tailswisher with a very strained grin on her face, shi nodded hir repesct to the cat. "You did better than expected, but I would grab a mental fortitude amulet at the store before your mind exhausts itself. Treat your familiars well and do not misuse them."
