Poking at the magic of TF Fan-rage. Also it was fun to match up what is currently the two most disparate styles for TF robot design. I made sure to include the rich, full lips on both Optimii, as that seems to piss people off more than war and world human suffering combined. :)

You know, I came to an interesting realization about the movie Transformer designs a couple weeks ago. After the movie came out I saw a LOT of flipping in opinion on the movie designs - flipping of opinion in both directions... Personally, I LIKED the movie designs when I first saw them. I could see how they'd work well in a live-action environment and I couldn't understand why others couldn't see it. However, thinking back I realize that among my favorite movies are two with giant robots that have reasonable special effects: Robot Jox and G-Saviour. These two movies are relatively unknown to most people, leading me to believe that many people had never seen a well-rendered giant robot in a live-action environment. As a result, many of them couldn't visualize the movie Transformer designs in a live-action environment, while I could. Most of the people who hated the designs prior to seeing the movie could only visualize them in the animated environment they were used to.
And quite frankly, the movie designs would be absolutely CRAP in an animated program.

I remember Robot Jox as well, one of my favorite movies of the 80's. The guy that played Detective Sikes on the Alien Nation tv series played the lead role in that movie. The only problem I had with the '07 TF movie was Megs, and not the way he looked per se, but the fact that he looked absolutely nothing like the Megatron I know and love. Make him a different character and I'll be happy, I just wasn't happy with him being called Megatron. I liked the way they threw a little bit of the old transforming sound effects into the transformation. :)
Meh, I'm not crazy about either design really, but I'm not gonna riot in the street over it. Classic Optimus is just the best one in my opinion. I mean look at Super man or Spider-man, they've changed their looks a bunch of times but in the end the original is the one they keep going back too cuz that's the one people like best.
heh heh heh, gotta admit how passionate people can get with something they love getting changed from the original vision. But, people don't really understand how quickly tastes in society change and how the general audience's view of what is entertaining shifts. If you compare how the older horror movies scared people back then, but make us laugh and think of how anyone could find a guy in a rubber suit frightening is an example of that. It's not like the folks making the Transformers into different styles for the heck of it. It's merely shaping it so it's capable of being taken in by the mass audience as a whole.

Most people bitching about the animation are toy fanatics who would watch the show regardless of story as long as they liked the way the TF's looked. In the case of Cybertron and other recent TF series the poor 3d animation hurt the action sequences and cheapened the show.
I like the new show so far. They limited the number of characters to allow for character development and used a style that was proven with another action series.

As i recal optimus had lips in the G1 comic as he got seriusly damaged one saw as his face plate was removed he had a mouth underneat...
I find the bay movie to be a logical execution to show faces for a mecanical thing by give him lips tho alslo he still ahve the face plate come out in action mode so i find that they were folowing the desing.

The Movie Prime was ugly. The Animated one is awesome and will always will in my opinion, That cartoon that you did on the animated prime was a little weird comparing to the original. Please don't hate me for that but its a little offensive. Its an awesome art though, Fantastic job.
No prob. You might not have all the facts though. The Prime on the left is based on the new "Transformers:Animated" series which premiered on Cartoon Network on the 26th, and starts running in January, which is which it looks different. It's all opinion and subjectivity anyway. I find much better things to be offended by than animation designs, myself.
I liked the look of the transformers from the movie cause it really looked like they could transform, but the look for Megatron still looked a little too weird, like there was no true symmetry for him and even looking at the toys, he doesn't look like he's a completely finished design and still rough around the edges.
But a number of different genres have had make-overs over time, take Godzilla and the other Toho monsters for example. They've slowly altered Godzilla's look but kept the general appearance the same, and we're not counting the American version. The american version ticked off the Japanese so bad, they made one last movie called Godzilla: Final Wars, where they had nearly every single monster in it, including a new look for Gigan. Gigan's appearance was the most drastic, but they made him look very bad ass!

i love TF, but they had to go and screw it all up. Id prefer the orginal Beast wars Cartoons over the "new" TF. if you ask me eric, the cartoon is a tall pile of stinking garbage that shloud have NEVER beed aired PERIOD. and yes lips should NEVER be on robots....its just plain creepy. (shudders)

I've actuly seen a couple of episodes of the new Animated series, and EWS, your artistic rendering of their new fire truck prime is actuly way better looking than how they draw him. They should have hired you as the artist, then maybe that series wouldn't be such a visiual abortion. :p

True Satoshi4892, while the new art style does suck so hard you think it would feel good. This new series does seem to have a good storyline. Despite the fact their useing what looks like a cyber planet key idea again -_-
But storyline wise it does well. and Optimus prime learns about sex, so that should make the series worth watching, hehe.

I don't know what the deal is, But! I liked the movie and i like the new animated series It sure beats the pants off of Cybertron and Energon US version.
The Beast Wars was also good, the story was more focused of The Maximal and The Predacons crashing on the "alien planet" also founding out the mass of Energon and battling out to get back to cybertron.
Transformers Armada was pretty well balance, not as good as beastwars but not bad. The idea of minicons came in to play which awesome.
I think missed out on alot because i remember when i was young. think i was 12 or 13 when my aunt bought me an Optimus Prime, " thing was he was different for he had a minicon that went in his chest... i found from a friend over years ago that it wasn't minicon he told it was the person who played the roll of Optimus prime..
(listen to me blab on... XD anywho.
I did watch Cybertron and it was okay, but i lost intrest in it. it felt like a transformer with drama. O_o)
You know with all cartoon crappy transformers they dish out minus Beastwars,Armada,the new animated series. They need to do everyone a big favor and bring back Transformers G1 on CN or Boomerange.
(note i only watched the US versions and not japan subbed ver. i don't plan on tracking down all of them down cause i don't have money to burn... but the "Toys" or action figers i call them, i'll buy them at times.

XD But, really, they did give him a feminine figure, and it looks like he wears lipstick XD ah well, it's for the kiddies who are probably too stupid to understand who's speaking if mouths don't move. Though the new Optimus' design makes it so much funnier when he laughs at other and finds out where babies some from :3
