A coloured pencil badge for
karannia, sans name for the moment!
I’m pushing myself with coloured pencils, trying to work in lighting, contrast, warm/cool tones, and colour matching. This was a real challenge to make the fur look white as opposed to cream or grey. I used impressed lines for the whiskers but they were lost under the layers of pencil, so I went for ye olde gel. I became intimate friends with Ginger Root, Cream, and Eggshell, and had a lot of fun working in the very subtle light greens.
This scan isn’t too bad. A little grainy and some colour gradients are lost, but it could be much worse.

Impressed line is a technique that involves etching the surface of the paper with thin lines so that a dull point will skip right over it. Basically you take anything thin, like a needle or sharp pencil point, and make lines like whiskers. Then you colour over it. This piece didn't work so well because of the many other techniques that filled in the deep valleys I created in an attempt to preserve the whiskers.
Wow those eyes. <3
Pretty impressive job with the scan I must say, its usually SO hard to get it to look good. One of the reasons why I gave up on coloured pencils. Your colours are pretty vibrant too, so gorgeous.
I was never a fan of the impression method for fur and whiskers, just 'cause it always seems to get covered, like you mentioned. I've heard of people taking a very sharp blade and scraping the colour off, but that seems risky.
White pens hate me, so they never seem to run properly.
