Pff I saw this on your Tumblr and I stared aggges at this piece (including the others) I love your sketches! It makes me wanna sketch with pencil again too (mechanical pencil right?) But I'm so used to drawing with a ballpoint pen, I can hardly see pencils lines anymore, or maybe it's just my bad pencils..:P Anyway rambling o3o...
I would absolutely very highly recommend getting into the habit of sketching with pencil. Not only does it de-tether you from sitting at a computer to draw, I think there is something to be said about the tactile quality of feeling the pencil moving across the paper (IE it's just more intuitive because your hand eye coordination isn't lost in translation with the use of a tablet). In the past few years I have really pushed away from digital sketching and I think it has really helped me improve at a lot of areas where I was lacking. In particular I have started to do a lot more gesture drawing, in which I very quickly lay out a form (often in thumbnail size) and quickly filled it in. Gesture drawing is a very powerful tool for the very reason that it is so spontaneous and so figures feel a lot more natural and grounded in their situations/worlds. I also found doing this kind of drawing translates very well when moving into more refined sketches and I can lay down ideas a lot faster than I used to. I have done a lot less refined/color work in the last few years as a result but I think this was a very much needed experience to have! EEK sorry for the lengthy reply <:.
Yeah, when I see your sketches it makes me want to sketch with pencil again as well. I used to draw a lot with real media, and I recently bought good pencils and watercolors again, but I don't know why, but it just scares me to start working with them again. When I draw digitally, it's so easy to edit things afterwards, like tweaking colors etc..But my mom says I should work with real media again as well, it's way more satisfying to draw on paper than digitally for me, maybe because it feels more real. :P And I don't mind long comments, I love them! Thank you for replying!
