Meet Wilhelmina (and, of course, you know Sylvia)...
Well, I WAS going to introduce you to Wilhelmina, a 1960s vintage Stoeger Luger in .22LR (named after Nick Carter, Killmaster's personal sidearm,) who made a cameo appearance in my 2013 workstation update, but, of course, Sylvia Siamese, the well-known kitteh diva, just HAD to get into the act...
I added Wilhelmina to my collection last spring and (as you can partially see by the bits of target not covered by a certain meezer who loves sacking out on paper for some obscure reason ) while the little Luger's not the tack driver my Whitney Wolverine is, she still does respectable grouping at 25 feet...

Got the chance to shoot the original 08 during my service in the Austrian Armed Forces. Each year we had shooting-practice, and every time we also had a range equiped with vintage firearms such as the 08, Mp 38, Mp 40, some Mauser Carbines - incuding Short K98, but also M1 Garand, Thompson M1A1, Browning 1911, and also the Russian PPSh 41, some Makarov pistols and finaly above all other the MG 42 - which is still in service within the Austrian Army. It's called the MG 74 now and received only minor chances such as a reduction of the caliber down from the original 7,92 x 57 millimeter to the NATO standard 7,62 x 51 mm. Still almost the same rate of firing (according to WIKI its about 850 rounds - but thats some BS!!!) But my point at first was that here in Austria the 08 got very, very rare these days - because most of them ended up in gun-collections in the U.S.
Jawohl Herr Major!
You've got some points. Food was mostly well - especially when I was sent to service abroad, got to LOVE the U.S. Army's MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) No comparision to the Austrian "Eiserne Ration" which was just powdered soups and powdered beverages and !!!canned bread!!! - yech... Yes, Commanding Officers sometimes can act moronic, e.g. troops-inspection at an outpost at the Golan-Heights, whole crew refurbished / rewamped the really rotten outpost for nearly two weeks - looked fine afterwords - finally the General arrived there, first to mention that the outpost is looking nice so it seems that we had nothing to do... Full combat-gear with flat-jacket and kevlar-helmet may look wired at the first view, (I've to scan a picture in which I'm wearing it) - but in combat theres nothing better than that.
AND NO - none of these above mentioned points led me to leave the Army - my ! ! ! S T U P I D ! ! ! ex-wife did, she found that a fucking combat-soldier was not good enough to support her status - my she go to H E L L where ever she is now!!!!!

I still miss my Detonics .451 which I made custom loads of reversed hollow based wadcutters with a .32 steel ball on top inserted with Magnesium....
For some that don't know the science of that when you super heat the magnesium and it hits liquid it ignites and keeps burning until extinguished or burned up..... I was fortunate to only need to use those rounds twice in my life......

The thing about the rounds I made I designed to penetrate vehicles and light armor to then chew up anything soft inside..... I even constructed a sabot round that was used by NHP for 15 years because it turned a shotgun into a anti vehicular weapon...... Unfortunately they later deemed them as inhumane and had to be ceased to be used because they was misused stopping people instead of the vehicles they was designed for......
Veddy nice! I like my brace of .45s as well:

but for practice, a box of .22s is way cheaper than a box of .45s! ;)

Right! That's why I was looking at the Sig. It's interesting, because it comes chambered in .40 S&W but you can change out the slide and barrel, pop in a different mag, and you now have a different caliber. I think you can get 9mm, .357, .40 S&W, .45 ACP. As of right now, though, I don't need another pistol. Actually, that's a lie. I'm looking for a good compact to carry. I may get a Glock for that though.
One thing I will say, on behalf of .45's (especially 1911's), is that while they kick, due to the weight they kind of balance themselves out. Shooting mine is like driving nails.

Forget it. I just remembered that New York state is totally anal about guns. The new law bans anythig with a pistol grip, a magazine that holds more than 7 rounds, a clip or an internal magazine that holds more than 7 rounds, or anything that is remotely gun shaped and goes pew pew.
They won't let me have guns. I am sad. I'm not sure if the rifle sitting next to me is ok or extremly illegal. It is an Arisaka type99 from imperial Japan, made during WWII incase you weren't familiar with it. It hold the legal amount of rounds and is bolt action but was never registered and also has a bayonet lug on the barrel with matching bayonet. Either way after making this statement I will be sure to look out for any snipers positioned out side my window tonight.
No way man. I would move to a state that allowed me to have the guns I want but I would have to think about the lack of soft pretzels and also I can't deal with no ocean access. I start to get all depressed and trapped fealing when I know there is no ocean near by or large body of water. I can barley stand fresh water when its moving let alone standing because of the bugs it breeds so lakes would be no go for me either. It also gets rid of just about every activity I can think of like boating, swimming, fishing, not being eaten alive by mosquitos, and also the perfect place to see a sun set. I prefer my current position on Long Island even though it is part of New York and has strict gun laws but there are always loop holes.
Tch. Anything directly north of you (CT, MA, etc.) is even more tightassed....
