How to Kludge a Trading Card Set (Also a Commission Question
I wanted to post this SOMEWHERE after I got it finished last night, even if the format is small and ridiculous and I just said I'd be posting nothing but creature doodles but OH WELL THIS COUNTS MAYBE.
The five cards by themselves are in my gallery already, but my professor wanted me to more or less strip the image portion of each one into some kind of five card display to submit for an award thing, sooo this is what I came up with! ... I may have gone a little overboard trying to play up the bleed effect of all the elements into the backdrop, but I'm really proud of it. It looks pretty snappy as a whole; we'll see how it does in whatever category it gets entered.
But I also wanted to post this so I could digress into something I've been thinking about for a couple of weeks since having the time to return to art sites and the internet. Since I am (I PROMISE, REALLY) on the cusp of starting commissions here, I've been wondering... would it be in people's interests to offer 'custom' trading cards as a quirky commission option? I still have the blank template I originally kludged together to use for this set of five cards, short of a downloaded font I lost when my system died a few weeks ago (which I can retrieve), and it's not something I've seen a lot of artists offer.
They could be done in the traditional everything-stays-in-its-box way or more like these, with elements breaking panels and a lot of whole card involvement. The necessity of some descriptive text is also a thing to considered.
Any thoughts out there of the idea? Would it be worthwhile to offer when I make my price listings/commission type options, or is it too much of a novelty?
