The lighting suggests sunset or dawn. Oddly, in a picture riding a horse, it's almost always sunset, not dawn.
Maybe saddling a horse and riding out in the dark, to be in a cool setting at dawn, is why.
The appearance of the clouds strongly suggest it is raining, back towards the mountains... or perhaps rolling hills?
