This is just a concept for the typical spine of a "basic" Langurhali (free of any deformities/mutations in the spine). I'm certain there are flaws in this, so feel free to critique/offer advice ;; I'm no anatomy expert. I love spines. I wish I had a spine collection. I adore how they look and move and read up on them lots. But I undoubtedly screwed something up while drawing this, especially how I've written the way in which the Langurhali's tails work.
I'm not sure how a normal mammalian spine would be able to realistically stretch this much; I know how flexible they can be and how much they can change based on how much you practice stretching (see: contortionists), but I'm not sure how possible it would be for the vertebrae to not just stretch, but SEPARATE so far away. So I've kinda thought up a way in which all the spinal tissue, nerves, etc. could stay intact within some kind of flexible tube within the spine. I found it very difficult to find reference material for how muscle tissue connects the vertebrae together; only images depicting how the muscles connect the spine TO the body and such. So I just made some criss-crossing muscle tissue that would be used for pulling the vertebrae tight while being active; a simple way for them to retract their tails and use them to fight with, grab things, or to have more stability, or just to keep it out of the way when running, climbing etc.
I want this to be believable, even though this is obviously a made-up species and not everything can or SHOULD be 110% accurate to "our" reality and whatnot. But yeah, I'd like to think there's a way to do this that would make a little more sense than what my meager understanding of anatomy can work up :P
Also, I pinked out the sections of spine that would be able to separate. The upper vertebrae wouldn't be able to stretch apart, since that's where the ribs are, and... well, I guess if you had a Langurhali that didn't have a sternum and all the ribs were separate from each other, that could work... sorta like a snake :3 Anything's possible and you can change just about anything around... the tail could have spines, the rib cage could be altered enough to where the entire spine could separate, there could be two tails or even split tails or two spines that branch off for siamese twins. The Langurhali are meant to be severely mutated in at least one way, so definitely don't let your creativity become restricted based on this basic guide to how their vertebrae separate. :3
