First of all, some of you will think this piece looks familiar.
I indeed used a motive by mick39- and dont worry, i got her explicit permission to use some of her artworks for practise purposes, and also as promised, i hereby link you to her original submission

and also : the lineart and motive is © Mick 39 !!!
Now that this is dealt with:
I spent 2 weeks on this piece- and I did this for three reasons
1. I wanted to learn about the anatomy of sergals, as i find anatomy especially in sergals is a sensitive and important matter
2. I wanted to improve my skills of shading and coloring without having to worry about the subject- that is why I used one of micks wonderful pieces and worked on it as base
3. I wanted to give mick my very special little credit to what she has created
The motive itself may not me of my creation, I took micks original and sketched the outlines of this beautiful sergal onto a new canvas, but every other brushstroke, all the shading and color, all of the rest was done by my own hands and without trying to imitate micks original, but instead developing my own style
I tried giving it my own touch-- i also did not use micks picture as guideline how to set certain values, because that also is better learned by doing it alone
This particular piece again, gave me a huge advancement-- with working on the armor, I learned how to achieve clear, and sharp borders, without outlines, and getting rid of the classic unsharp photoshop look
I also tried for the very first time, a picture based on greyscale, not on color-- the color was indeed, the last thing that was given to this picture.
I am extremely happy how this turned out, even if I already spot a million mistakes-both perspective wise and technique wise, but still I have to move on, and i think you can see the effort i put into this.
I think my art , my style has developed by a huge step, and I reached a new plateau of maturity what this matter is concerned.
I have a ton of projects for the next weeks as I have some requests from buddies, and while doing this piece, I got lots of inspiration for more but this time 100 % original Chiral made art.
So i hope you enjoy the piece and stay tuned for more pictures, which will most definitely follow in now shorter periods.
